S – Substitute

Materials: What materials / elements could you substitute in your outcome?
- The plastic kitchen wrap that I had to wrap around the paper dough shapes in the end so they would hold together – I could either use an already used piece of plastic if I had more time to source some or a different material altogether, again, if I had the time to source some
- I would exchange the acrylic yarn for a more sustainable alternative

Location: What if you planned to place your outcome somewhere else?
- It could be interesting to actually make the outcome into a live performance and translate the imaginary environments into physical space. I could see it in a gallery, where there would be multiple rooms transformed into the environments and the performer would walk through them while their garment would transform.

C - Combine

Ideas: Can you combine this idea with another to create something new?
- I could combine it with my textile experiments from the materials project, where I was working with temporary textile manipulations and prints by freezing. I can imagine combining the restriction element with this, having a hard, frozen fabric restricting the body, only to gradually melt and free the wearer.

Purposes: Could your work have multiple purposes? (list them)
- It could have a similar purpose to mood rings and bracelets, which change colour according to mood
- The whole nature of this garment is versatile, which means that it has multiple different ways to be worn, which serves both an aesthetic purpose, but also a sustainability related one – bringing attention to reducing the number of clothes we buy (overconsumption)

A - Adapt

Small adaptation: What small changes could you make? (list options that you might consider)
- Material changes as mentioned above
- Better translation of the colour palette into the chaotic side of the final outcome – more accurate choice of yarn and other embellishments
- More refined drawings
- Make the restriction underneath the coat more extreme

Large: What huge adaptation might you make (eg. if you had another 4 weeks?)
- Working with and developing an electronic textile that would allow for the garment to self-transform, allowing for the wearer’s arms to be restricted as well. It would also make the transforming element much stronger and allow for a longer performance video

M - Modify

How could you change the shape, look, or feel of your outcome?
- If I had more space, I would make it even larger and wider, subsequently making the difference between the expanded version of the garment and the scrunched-near-the-head version of the garment more extreme
- I could also take inspiration from my bondage research and my initial drapes and consider tying ropes around the coat in its expanded form (with the hoop structure still underneath) to see how it would react to the structure trying to stretch it out and the ropes trying to tie it up

P - Put to Another Use

What if you changed the audience or function of your piece?
- If I placed it in the gallery and made it a live performance as I mentioned in one of the earlier points, the audience would change as well. I haven’t really thought about target audience throughout my project but I’m sure that presenting it digitally will reach a different audience than presenting it in a gallery.

E - Eliminate

What could you take away to simplify the idea?
- I could eliminate one of the contrasting environments (and the whole idea behind it), but that would subsequently mean that the transformation process would be eliminated as well. I think that keeping all the environments and eliminating just the transformation process and creating two separate outcomes responding to each of them could also work and be less technically difficult.

R – Reverse

Concept: What if you try to do the exact opposite of what you're trying to do now?
- It’s really hard to think about this question because I have been working with opposites during this whole project, even the final presentation showcases the exact opposite of my feelings towards the environments. I guess and opposite would be not working with contrasting elements and simplifying the project by a lot.
